Why Should We Care About Knowing the Truth?

This right here is quite an important question that we usually forget to ask ourselves. Why should we care, while we can easily stay away from confusing our minds with such deep stuff and live our lives and be done with it? In order to avoid feeling disturbed from strange possibilities, such as having been created for a reason or something, we can easily say that we are not doing anything bad to anyone, so if there is an afterlife or something, we can assume that things should still be fine for us anyway. Or maybe we already have some religious belief and naively imagine it to be true, so everything is and will be obviously fine for us anyway.

This question doesn’t mean why we should find some dogmatic answer that gives us a delusion of a meaning, because deep inside we can never manage to deceive ourselves. Even the most religious people are aware that what they are doing is just following some faith hoping it to be the right one. When we think about how many different worldviews exist in the world, each differing in at least some way, needless to say that being born into the right one would be like winning the lottery, if of course any of them is true.

This topic has a place at the core of our intellectual awareness. When we have a good distraction for our minds we may tend to forget, but whenever we are awake we will always be affected by the way we answer the biggest questions about our lives. What some of us experience during an existential crisis sometimes is a great way to see how it actually affects us all, at all times, even though at a smaller scale, based on how much or little we are focusing on it.
